While the idea of driving a freight train around San Andreas sounds fun in theory, the execution is sadly a little lackluster. They'll also unlock the "Rescue a Kitten Too?" trophy/achievement for their troubles as well. This can be incredibly useful, particularly in the two or three timed missions in which players need to stop and extinguish flames with a fire extinguisher before progressing.
As in Vice City before it, San Andreas rewards those who complete the Fire Fighter mission by making CJ flameproof.
